DINING In DUNCAN and AROUND COWICHAN
Whether you crave an upscale or relaxed atmosphere, Duncan’s restaurants, pubs and other eating establishments are so varied you can indulge in a different culinary style every meal, every day of the week! Enjoy seaside pubs, ethnic specialty restaurants, or quiet and intimate dining rooms.
The Cowichan region is becoming known as Canada’s ‘Provence’ because of the quality and diversity of products being grown here. Artisan cheeses, hand crafted breads and superior fruits and veggies are highly sought after by local chefs and restaurateurs who serve up some of the tastiest, freshest and healthiest food you will find anywhere in the world.
Wineries are creating excitement with both red and white varietals, and an estate cidery will be adding distilled spirits to their distinguished repertoire next year. Most wineries offer tours and tastings and many have delightful cafes, bistros and picnic areas.
Old Town Duncan is home to the region’s only brewpub. Legendary painter EJ Hughes’ artwork adorns the walls, and fine craft beers created onsite complement time honored favorites and unique dishes.
If "do it your self" is your style, visit the farmgates or weekly farm markets where friendly local growers and producers will be more than happy to tell you about their goods.
Several events throughout the year allow one to sample the rich diversity palate pleasing products. In September the focus is on food. The Wine & Culinary Festival and Gourmet Gala pairs talented and creative chefs with award winning wines.
