    Volunteer Coordinator
    Position:  24 hours to March 31, 2023
    Responsible to: Executive Director
    ROP: $25.00/hour
    Start Date: As soon as possible
    The Volunteer Coordinator will assist Volunteer Cowichan and local agencies to promote, mobilize and celebrate volunteers. They will be responsible for recruiting, screening, training, retaining, supporting and recognizing volunteers for existing Volunteer Cowichan programs; implement training videos from the New Horizons for Seniors Program; network and assist with agencies to support local volunteer programs. The role ensures that volunteers are stewarded through Volunteer Cowichan and remain connected to Volunteer Cowichan. 
    The Volunteer Coordinator will work within the guidelines, policies and mission of the agency and will be accountable and responsible for specific projects as assigned by the Executive Director. 
    Primary Responsibilities

    • Maintain volunteer files ensuring documentation of screening practices and compliance with standards or practice and relevant legislation
    • Organize opportunities for volunteer sector mobilization
    • Connect Program Coordinators within organization with volunteers
    • Support goals and objectives in the Strategic Action Plan
    • Develop and assist marketing material
    • Maintain social media platforms and online recruitment site postings
    Volunteer Recruitment & Training
    • Update and implement recruitment and training for volunteers
    • Manage recruitment, intake screening, training facilitation, and on going supports and communication with volunteers
    • Support a climate of readiness for volunteers by clearly communicating needs, details and expectations
    • Recruit volunteers for specific roles and assignments through internal and external strategies 
    Relationship Management
    • Build relationships with non-profit sector partners to assess opportunities related to volunteering and build out opportunities
    • Provide guidance and support to non-profit sector working with volunteers
    • Participate in the planning of events, fundraisers and organizational activities as needed
    • Two (2) year diploma in Social Sciences or a related discipline or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
    • Demonstrated organization with strong written, verbal and critical thinking skills
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently and a part of a team
    • Demonstrated computer skills (word, excel); Canva, Word Press knowledge preferred
    • Be willing to undertake appropriate training as it becomes available or is recommended
