We are excited to invite you to our next Mix & Mingle event, celebrating
the stunning artwork of renowned sculptor Graham Pettman at the
Cowichan Public Art Gallery. The exhibit includes 24 carvings as well as several paintings, a body of work created over the span of nearly 60 years.
Pettman, born in Alberta in 1938, has been an influential figure in indigenous art, creating a unique style that has impacted many other indigenous sculptors. The upcoming exhibition focuses on his remarkable representation of the Cree “Little People,” or Mimigewsiwak brought to life through exquisite stone sculptures.
Raised amidst the old ways of the Cree lifestyle in small-town Alberta, Graham's artistry reflects his deep ties to his native heritage and the natural world. His work in soapstone, initiated in 1982, beautifully intertwines symbols of nature, capturing the essence of the material before he begins his carving process.
Come join us and immerse yourself in an evening of cultural heritage, artistic mastery and engaging conversations. Don't miss this exceptional opportunity to witness a master class in observation and expert carving inspired by ancient traditions.
